Questions about the Newborn Session

How far in advance should I book my newborn session?
Because newborns are best photographed within the first 5-10 days (depending on your baby’s weight), we advise booking your session at least 4-6 weeks before you are due to give birth. Once you do give birth, we can finalize the actual date of the session depending on how you are feeling and your baby’s actual weight. If you have already given birth and want to photograph your newborn, give us a call and we can let you know our availability.

Where do you the newborn sessions take place?
We have two session options: 1) our home studio; 2) your home. It will likely be more convenient for you to have the session in your home, so we will bring our props, backgrounds, wraps, and blankets to you.

Should I provide anything for the session?
We will provide props for your newborn, but if you have any special items, clothing, accessories (e.g., bows, hair clips) or wraps or blankets you wish to include in the session shoot, you can let us know prior to the session date.

What if I want my spouse, children or other family members in the pictures?
Not a problem-we’ll include whoever you want!

Why is the session 3 to 4 hours?
On average, our newborn sessions run 3 hours. Of course, your baby won’t spend this much time posing, which is why the session time takes into account your feeding, holding, playing with your little one, as well as getting him or her to sleep; some poses are more effective while your baby is sleeping.

What should I wear?
We recommend wearing something comfortable and in neutral colors (e.g., no prints or logos), and preferably something that provides contrast (e.g., black, white).

Do I need to dress my baby?
No need to. Your baby will be perfectly attired wearing nothing.

Questions about the Portrait Session

How long is a session?
A portrait session will last anywhere from  1–2 hours; the total time depends on how active your little one is. Naturally, feeding, changing, and comforting is taken into account.

How far in advance should I schedule my session?
We recommend at least 14 days in advance. We realize that sometimes plans change quickly, so you can always give us a call and we can let you know our availability.

General Questions

When do I get to see the pictures?
10-14 business days after your session, we will provide you with a password to our site so that you can log in and view a gallery of what we feel are the best pictures (usually 20-25 images). Once you choose the number of pictures designated in your session package, we will provide you with a link to download them.

Can I order additional pictures beyond the number that come with my session package?
Of course! In your gallery, we'll include a number of additional shots that you can select. Each additional picture beyond the number in your session package is $35; or you can upgrade your session package for an extra $200 to include all of the pictures in the gallery.

Can I order prints, canvas and other items from you?
Yes, you can! We offer a sort of products, such as Standouts, Canvas, Metal Prints, Accordion Books and Photobooks. For pricing, please check our product page.

Questions about the Birth Session

Is the birth session just taking pictures of my baby’s birth?
No, the birth session, which is documentary in nature, captures a variety of scenes and moments, from the place of birth itself, your family, or anyone else present for support, as well as anyone actively involved with the birth (e.g., spouse). Naturally, the session itself culminates in the actual birth of your baby, as well as those precious mommy and newborn moments immediately following the birth. For this reason, the session time (up to seven hours) is extended.

What if I don’t want pictures of the actual birth?
Not a problem-it’s you and your family’s beautiful day, so we can come up with a plan to document only what you really feel comfortable documenting.

Do you document C-sections?
Again, this decision is completely up to you, but we can certainly make it part of the session.

How will you know when I’m ready to have the baby?
Prior to your projected due date, we’ll come up with a protocol so that I can arrive well in advance of your delivery. Ideally, when you are having consistent contractions you will first contact me (by phone or text), then again when you are at the hospital (or birthing center) and/or when you are 5 cm dilated; at that point I will plan to arrive at the hospital shortly thereafter. Everybody’s birth plan is different, so we will work out the specifics once you book your session.
